Tom Cook brings more than 30 years of experience in financial services, both as a consultant and as an executive, successfully leading companies through change.
Tom built the insurance business of a top ten bank, National City, now PNC Bank, from $30 million in revenue in 2000 to $210 million in 2007 while improving pre-tax margins from 36% to 45%. He successfully designed and introduced several new and innovative insurance programs and products at the bank.
At one of the world’s top five insurance brokerages, Acordia, now Wells Fargo Insurance, Tom led the turnaround of the company’s Northeast Ohio region. He consolidated offices, closed unprofitable business lines and added sales expertise, returning the company to profitability in less than one year.
Tom was part of the executive team who created a transportation insurance line of business for Progressive Insurance; growing the business from scratch to over $200 million of sales and 600 people in less than two years. When Progressive made the strategic decision to narrow its focus on auto insurance he managed the closure of the transportation insurance division, generating a $62 million profit--$38 million more than expected.
He began his career in finance and consulting at Price Waterhouse where he provided audit and consulting services to a wide variety of clients ranging from a $20 million medical group practice to a large multinational tire manufacturer. Tom was also part of the team that started the company’s healthcare practice line of business.
A past President of the American Bankers Insurance Association (ABIA), Tom served as a board member of the organization from 1999-2008. He is a member of the board of trustees of WVIZ/WCPN ideastream Public Television and Radio and is President of the Tremont West Development Corporation.
Tom earned his Bachelor’s degree from Baldwin-Wallace College and an MBA from Case Western Reserve Weatherhead School of Management. He is also a Certified Public Accountant.
