 Communication is at the heart of all good processes; and to integrate Cobalt Group’s planning, growth strategies and capacity building services Susan Ruiz Patton is responsible for strategic communication and messaging, market research and media/public relations.
Ms. Ruiz Patton is a veteran reporter and editor who most recently worked at one of the nation’s top 25 newspapers. She has spent the past 20 years researching and writing about government, crime and charities. She knows the journalism trade inside and out – even as it continues to change in today’s environment. Citizen journalism (hyper-local) and alternative news sources are just a few of Susan’s research interests.
Ms. Ruiz Patton is adept at coaching people through the process of effectively communicating with all types of audiences – especially the media. With her reporter’s viewpoint and contacts in the media which she maintains from her previous career, she can identify the best media strategy in a crisis and she knows how to attract positive attention for good news.
Having spent several years as an editor for a major newspaper’s website, she is proficient at translating industry copy to Web 2.0 powered content.
An award-winning writer, Ms. Ruiz Patton has trained reporters and editors across the country on the nonprofit sector. As an editor at Ohio’s largest newspaper, she became adept at troubleshooting big problems under tight deadlines.
In her free time, she is researching for a book she intends to write about her ancestry including a former vice president of the United States, Daniel Thompkins, and the Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa.
She has studied the nonprofit sector at the University of Mississippi and the University of Southern California. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa.
